Chi Omegas Gain Sports Reporting Experience with Daily Iowan TV

Staying up to date with campus news can sometimes be challenging, but the Daily Iowan is here to solve that problem. As a student-run campus newspaper, you can stay in the loop with current events going on around the nation as well as those happening on campus. Many Chi Omega sisters have gotten involved with the Daily Iowan, dedicating their time and hard work into helping the campus stay informed about things happening right here in Iowa City. Their creativity is evident in the stories they create and we love supporting them as they pursue something they are truly passionate about.

“As a senior who is graduating with a degree in finance and business analytics and feeling so confused on what I really want in life after college, I am beyond grateful for stepping out of my comfort zone and reaching out to the Daily Iowan to try out something I have always wanted to do but never seemed possible. The opportunities and experiences I have been given at DI have opened up so many doors in my future career path that truly engage and excite me for what’s to come. I have not only learned the important key roles of what goes into being a sports reporter and gained the confidence, but I have also learned a lot about myself. I have have found the importance of how beneficial is it to surround yourself with like minded individuals who strive for similar career goals. Being able to attend the sporting events here at Iowa as a sports reporter gives my chills because I truly feel it’s what I was meant to do everytime I step out there. Even though I have only been working here for less than a year I now know where my passions lay and I have a whole different mind shift for my future. I thank my co-workers and Chi Omega sisters who are right there with me learning and trying to figure this out together while creating life long relationships and memories I will hold onto forever.” - Katelyn Bonnett

“Being the sports director for the Daily Iowan has been a great way for me to gain skills I would benefit from in my career path, but most importantly it has brought me relationships I will forever cherish. I am always in awe of how much each person in the studio means a lot to me and how much each person has pushed me to be the best leader I possibly can. I used to never see myself in a position like this and people on my staff have instilled confidence not only in my reporting but just in myself. A lot of my favorite memories have been during the football season and being able to be on the field covering the games with Katelyn, Vivian, or Mary have been unforgettable. My personal favorite was being able to travel to Maryland to cover a football game and networking with incredible people. I couldn’t be grateful for the memories and the late nights laughing while working hard to do what we all love. I have learned how to be a leader, reporter, producer, and director while making relationships that will last me a lifetime at the Daily Iowan.” - Destinee Cook

“Being a sports reporter at The Daily Iowan has brought me the most amount of joy I never thought a job would bring me. Starting out as a psychology major, I was lost and did not know what I wanted to do with my life. I then found The Daily Iowan, switched my major, and am so thankful I did. Being able to get this experience is awesome. Being on the field of Kinnick, the court of Carver, interviewing coaches and players is the best feeling in the world. I have truly found what I want to do in my life and I will never turn back. The people I work with are so welcoming, helpful, and caring to anyone who needs it. All of us are learning and teaching one another which is the best part of reporting. Being able to learn how to produce, edit, record, write, and report is such a great feeling. I truly found what I want to do with my career. I never thought a job could be this fun, but working here it is. I am truly so lucky to be able to work alongside some of the best people. I am thankful for The Daily Iowan every single day.” - Mary Merschman

When I first joined DITV I loved how everyone makes you feel welcomed right away. Everyone is supporting you and whenever you have questions or need help, the team is always there to answer your questions step by step. This team feels like a family as you create bonds inside and outside of DITV with your coworkers. Working with some other of my sisters in Chi Omega opens another bond to connect on sports reporting and supporting the stories they create. It made me feel more comfortable knowing I have some of my sisters with me as we all grow to become better at sports reporting here at Iowa! When working at DITV there is never a dull moment for a good time, creating new memories is always happening whenever you are in the studio. Attending games, late nights, and live shows. One memory that I will truly never forget is when my friends created a new segment and they would record every Tuesday night. These two were so much fun to watch and were entertaining to everyone around them. With some funny mistakes during the recording of the segment, it had everyone laughing so hard in the booth and everyone was watching their segment come to life and having a good time. DITV has truly changed my first experience at Iowa and I couldn't be more grateful for this opportunity.” - Vivian Sumoski
