Chi Omega Summer Travels

Hello Summer! As we finished up finals, we said goodbye to our sisters and headed off for summer vacation. Throughout the first couple months of summer, our sisters have been traveling the world! Many girls have been on service trips, studying abroad or visiting sisters around the country.

Five Psi Betas had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica for the Vida Trip. The girls traveled to different areas of the country and set up free clinics that provide dental, medical, and veterinary care to communities in need. along with spending time on the beach and creating memories they will remember the rest of their lives! Maddie Burst shared, “I would go back in a heartbeat. The feeling that I had everyday at the clinic was so amazing, and experiencing the culture first had was so eye opening and beautiful.” The group met two other Chi Omega’s while on the trip from Oklahoma University.

Peyton Swift also went on a service trip this summer to Nepal. Swift got to teach students through the Rebuild Nepal Education foundation. Her favorite part of her trip was being able to interact and connect with the kids.

We also had many sisters furthering their education in Europe. Marisa Milavetz decided to study aboard with the USAC. She has learned all about the culture and the challenges of being in a foreign country not knowing the primary language. Her favorite part so far has been traveling on the weekends to different places throughout Europe. Our President, Mary Grace Henderson, had the opportunity to study in Ireland. She shared, “I decided to study abroad in Dublin, Ireland because my great-grandparents were irish immigrants, so I wanted to learn more about my heritage!”

Taylor Fredrich had the amazing opportunity to go to Greece and shadow healthcare professionals. Fredrich decided to go on this trip because of her pre-health track at the University of Iowa. Fredrich said,  “My favorite part was being able to observe in the operating room. There was so much action, and I’d never seen surgery like I was able to in Greece.” She also enjoyed traveling the Greek Islands during her time off.

Other sisters have enjoyed their time traveling just for fun! Karly Lent visit Mount Rushmore and said, “My favorite part was the anticipation leading up to arriving. You would catch glimpses of the sculpture as you're driving through the hills, and it got me so excited to finally see the sculpture up close that had been on my list for so long.”

McKenna Tackes visited her sisters, Callie Thomas, Claire Burelbach, and Emmerson Fuller in Chicago. Tackes shares, “Seeing some of my sisters over summer break really makes me excited to move into the Chi Omega house in August!”

Peyton Swift reflected, “I am able to bring a new perspective of gratitude, kindness, and helpfulness to the 804. These invaluable lessons will help build up the sisterhood to be one that puts others first.”

We are so proud of all our sisters and their accomplishments this summer, and we are so excited to be back Iowa City this fall! Happy Summer!
